Before it was published as a bedtime story, No Night Night was born as a poem. I wrote it years ago. I stashed it away in a drawer and then rediscovered it in 2015. It seemed like such a cute rhyme, I later decided to get it copyrighted in poem form, just in case I felt like "doing something" with it someday.
"Nite Nite", as it was originally titled has gone through several versions, corrections and editions in its journey to become the bedtime story it is today. I thought it might be interesting to share it with you in one of it's earliest stages.
Nite Nite
I played all day and part of the night
I won’t go to bed now
No night night!
I ate my dinner
Every bite
I won’t go to bed now
No night night
My Mommy gave me a warm bubble bath
I’m in my favorite jammies at last,
But I won’t go to bed now
No night night
I love to cuddle up with Mommy in the rocking chair
She’s so soft, but I don’t care
I don’t wanna go to bed now
No night night!
She holds me tight and sings pretty lullabies
Before I know it, I’m closing my eyes
I’m safe and cozy, I guess Mommy was right
I’ll try again tomorrow
Baby go night-night!
